OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our aim is to provide a range of quality products at competitive prices. I will not buy equipment, materials etc. on the Internet, eBay or craft channels. I believe it is false economy and it discourages people from interacting with one another.

To provide a friendly, helpful service and create an environment conducive to learning new skills and developing existing ones.

To support individuals on their creative journey, allowing them to develop at their own pace but at the same time, encouraging them to be adventurous.

Your life is your work of art.

Hope you're all enjoying our glorious summer and not getting too wet!!

I thought I'd put pen to paper before I go on holiday and remind you that the shop will close on Saturday 28th August at 3 p.m. We will re-open on Tuesday 14th September at the usual time.

It's been so busy just recently with loads going on that I'm very much in need of some 'time out'. Paul and I are really looking forward to spending some time with our German friends, Christine, Dietmar and Sandra.

The workshops just recently have been fab and you are all producing some amazing work. There's more to come. Sarah and I have been planning events until the end of the year. We hope you will join in.

The exhibitions really seem to have taken off, and they’ve become such a regular feature at The Cubby Hole that we’ve now given Gallerie@204 it’s own space on the web - just click on the link at the top of the page. It's great to see such a diverse range of work. Crewe always seems to get forgotten, dismissed as a cultural backwater but I intend to put us on the map!! We have bookings now until the end of June - how good is that! I'm sure that we can always fit in another Poetry Slam too!

1st July
Hi folks. Thought it was about time I put pen to paper again and fill you in with what's been going on.

A huge 'thank you' to everyone who made the effort to join in 'The Bloomin Great Tea Party' on Saturday 26th June. Jenny and friends put an enormous amount of time into the organisation and I'm sure you'll agree, it paid off. What a lot of cake!! We had a raffle with some fantastic prizes - thank you Lisa for yet another fab floral arrangement.  There were loads of tombola prizes. The teddy's name was Woolfie - congrats to Christine. Perhaps a gift for an impending new arrival.........

Mr.Edward Timpson, our MP paid us a visit once again. I'd like to thank him for his continuing support.

We raised an impressive £173.20 for Marie Curie cancer care. Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to make the afternoon a success.

Don't forget that Friday 2nd July is our next preview evening. I know that LIz the artist is busy, busy, busy with her preparations. Due to setting up the exhibition, there will not be a Friday group but the shop will be open as normal.

Good news is that we have exhibitions now lined up until the end of the year. If you know of anyone else who might be interested in the space, let me know.

On sale from Friday 2nd July  'Tracey's Art Dolls - The Cubby Hole Collection.

These cute characters are strictly for adults only. Can you find a space for one in your workroom?

Just one more thing before I shut up, more workshop dates coming soon - dates to follow. Watch this space.

24th May
Breaking news........
Gallerie@204 is fully booked with exhibitions for the rest of 2010!
Watch this space for further details

26th April
The Shop will be open Friday 30th April but there will be no Friday group as Jo will be setting up for her exhibition.

Crop Shop Saturday May 8th is only from 10 - 2 as the shop closes at 4pm for holidays.

What a crazy weekend we’ve just had!!
If you missed the POETRY SLAM you really missed out, we had a brilliant night.
“Refusing to Lie Down Poets” read a selection of their work and then we had an open mic. I was amazed at how many people got up and had a go. I’m sure we’ll remember the limericks and ‘triangular sandwiches’ for a long time to come.
The evening went well over time, but no one minded. The finale was a bit special - TAP, BANG, WALLOP, an African drumming group led by Djembe Dave. They gave an impressive display of drumming accompanied by radical spoken word. Totally unexpected but I’m sure they’ll be back.
Anyone fancy a drumming workshop?

Don’t forget the preview of our next exhibition Friday 30th April 7-9 pm.
Fantastic artwork plus the usual cheese and wine

12th April
I can’t believe it’s a whole year since we opened the doors at 204. What a crazy time it’s been but we seem to be going from strength to strength. We have so much more space for products which arrive on a weekly basis, and there’s so much more room for workshops, etc. April has a packed programme already, I hope all the dates are in your diary.

I’d like to welcome SARAH ANDERSON to the Cubby Hole. Sarah is our new workshop co-ordinator, taking over from Sue who’ll be off ‘to new horizons’ in the next few weeks - we’ll miss her!!!
Sarah’s first workshop ART JOURNALLING I was a great success and everybody produced some amazing work. I promise there will be piccies to follow!!
ART JOURNALING II is on Saturday 17th April, MISS IT - MISS OUT. If you attended the first workshop, please bring your journal with you.

FRIDAY 23rd APRIL 7.30 til 9pm is our very very first POETRY SLAM (see below) and I’m really excited about this. REFUSING TO LIE DOWN POETS will be reading their work, but there will also be slots in the evening when individuals can also take up the mike and read their own stuff. Pass the word around.

SATURDAY 24th APRIL - Another workshop, HAVING FUN WITH PAINT with guest tutor JEAN BRIERS. Many of you will remember Jean who is one half of FINEART 53. She exhibited at the Cubby Hole in February. This is going to be a mixed media workshop, very messy, wear old clothes, you will also be using bleach.

FRIDAY 30th APRIL is our next preview evening - DREAMSPACE 7-9pm (see below). Jo Thilwind will be displaying her work, and I have to say ‘it’s a bit special’. There will also be prints and greetings cards available. The exhibition will run throughout May. Again - spread the word.
Preview evenings are really good. It’s a chance to see the artwork on our opening night and get to meet the artist. It’s very relaxed and informal, cheese and wine are provided and entry is free.
Our last exhibition with the work of MARK SHEEKY was a huge success - we want him to come back later in the year.

Our monthly swaps have produced some lovely work too. Click here to have a look. April’s theme is - It’s a Man Thing.....
It was great to meet Patricia from Dewsbury and her friend Anne from Sheffield recently. Thank you for joining in our projects

I think that’s all the news for now, except to wish PAULINE from the Thursday group a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
It’s a big one - have a great day

Carol

9th Feb
Our Preview evening on Friday 5th Feb was a truly fantastic night and it was good to see so many people supporting Jean and Katherine.
Jean is going to be “Artist in Residence” on Saturday 20th February and you are invited to come along and watch her working on one of her latest pieces. She has very kindly agreed to run a workshop for us in the coming weeks - date to be confirmed.

Saturday 20th February is also our PLAYDAY. Spend the day with us, or just drop in for a short while and work on a larger size collaborative piece. Should be fun.

By now you will probably have heard that our friend, Sue Roddis, will be leaving us in the not too distant future. Her husband has accepted a job in faraway Kazakhstan and she is obviously going with him. We will all miss her and her workshops, which I know you have all enjoyed.

However, I am really pleased to announce that taking Sue’s place is SARAH ANDERSON who will start workshops at the Cubby hole at the end of March. Pencil these dates into your diary:

ART JOURNALLING PART I - SAT 27th MARCH
ART JOURNALLING PART II - SAT 17th APRIL
Workshop times as usual 10-4pm

DO NOT MISS OUT. Get your place booked. Your deposit reserves your space but full payment is a must before the date. Sorry guys but this applies to all workshops in 2010

Our next exhibition features the work of MARK SHEEKY who’s style is totally different from what you have seen to date.

His preview evening is on Friday 5th March. Everyone welcome, refreshments as usual.

I’m looking forward to paying a visit to my annual trade show at the end of February. Hopefully there will be lots of new products to see and some new companies to buy from. WATCH THIS SPACE.

I’m now fed up waiting for my STAMPOTIQUE stamps so I’ll just shut up about them - until next time!

P.S. The CD cases were brill - what a clever lot you are...

Hopefully you are now busy on the next swap, Suzanne’s “Inchies” idea

HAPPY CRAFTING

P.P.S. Thought for the day....

“A girl (or boy) can’t go wrong with a tub of Gesso...

Slap it on!!!”
